Programs and Events

The Lambda Center is a Washington, D.C. based mental health, substance abuse and addictions treatment center specifically designed for the gay, lesbian, bisexual and transgender communities. The Lambda Center provides inpatient care, a partial hospitalization treatment program, and intensive group therapies. These short-term intensive programs are designed to assist clients in an affirming atmosphere, while providing comprehensive, individualized care.

The Lambda Center is unique because it is staffed by GLBT competent clinicians who’s training and personal background equip them to work well with the GLBT community. The expertise that accompanies Lambda Center clinical staff has been earned through years of experience, and specialized supervision. The treatment environment is one in which diversity is respected, and where clients are encouraged to heal as part of a larger community.

OUR STRUCTURED SERVICES INCLUDE:

Comprehensive assessment by clinicians sensitive to the impact of heterosexism and homophobia;

Inpatient and Outpatient mental heath and addiction treatment services;

Effective therapies and education in an affirming environment;

Referrals to and collaborations with credentialed GLBT competent community-based therapists in the Washington DC metropolitan area.

Expressive and Creative therapies; and

Peer interaction that maximizes clients' opportunities to experience acceptance


REFERRAL AND ASSESSMENT

We welcome referral calls 24 hours a day from therapists, patients, clergy, families and anyone who is concerned about the well-being of someone who identifies as gay, lesbian, bisexual or transgender. Trained mental health professionals, knowledgeable about GLBT cultures and special issues conduct the initial assessment. They are careful to explore sensitive matters, and discuss the inclusion of significant others in the assessment and treatment process.

The Lambda Center accepts most major insurance and managed care plans, Medicare, and D.C. and Maryland Medicaid. Free treatment may be available for qualifying individuals through the Addiction Prevention Recovery Administration of Washington DC. Financial counseling is also available.
